Harmonic Surveys

Harmonic Surveys

Harmonic measurement can be made to establish compliance to voltage harmonics limits or for current harmonics related to EMC emission limits and their potential effect on the voltage supply due to the source impedance.

Our harmonic emission compliance surveys focus specifically on measurement of the harmonic spectrum to produce a harmonic profile. For voltage harmonic compliance we are able to establish if the voltage provided to the customer by the distribution network operator (DNO) complies with the BS:EN50160 voltage characteristics standard which they are obligated to conform to.

A harmonic current emissions survey can be conducted to establish if harmonic currents maybe contributing to problems in the Public Electricity Supply that could cause problems for other users. The resulting harmonic profile provides a good indication on the installations potential to export or pollute the local network. Harmonic currents are assessed against EMC standards and other reference limits described in technical documents and engineering recommendations such as G5/5 and G5/4.

Both voltage and current harmonic compliance surveys require a minimum of one weeks monitoring to allow us to collate the required measurements and produce either the voltage compliance report or harmonic current spectrum to for the site and its existing electrical loads.
