Power Quality Expert training content can discuss the concepts and topics of power quality and energy efficiency to help the electrical contractor and engineer gain an understanding of power quality concepts, typical power quality parameters and what, why and how you should be making the measurements.

Our content covers topics introduced in Appendix 17 and Part 8 in Amendment 2 of the BS7671:2018 – 18th Edition wiring regulations and aims to explain the newer concepts such as prosumer installations, electrical energy management systems as well as the measurement concepts and methodologies of power quality and energy management.

Content of our courses can also look at the various topics of power quality and energy measurement. We give an overview of power quality and energy monitoring with an introduction to BS:EN50160, harmonics and energy efficiency measurements with what to measure when investigating an installations power and energy usage.

The BS:EN50160 standard is expanded on to explain the typical voltage characteristics of electricity supplied by public electricity networks. Energy efficiency measurements can be explained along with an introduction to legislation and standards such as ESOS, SECR and ISO50001 and how schemes such as the ETL (Energy Technology List) can be used when looking for new technology to save energy.

We are able to introduce theory on how harmonics are defined along with how they are caused and how this can affect a local electrical network supply. Harmonic measurement standards that define how harmonic measurements are made with modern power quality analysers can also be introduced to help understand instrumentation specifications and capabilities.

With the introduction of Part 8 we now help you understand what defines an electrical energy management system and to establish the scope of what an EEMS can do, how energy data is collected and the types of metering available depending on different measurement applications. An introduction to how management software integrates with the metering and how it can be used to produce reports and analyse the energy data can also be covered.
