Verifying Earth Fault Loop Impedance (EFLI)

The ECA (Electrical Contractors Association) presented their latest technical guidance as part of a CPD training presentation for their Midland area members. The training was supported by Power Quality Expert who helped to explain how metering accuracy is calculated and how this accuracy of test meters is important when considering lower measurement values, especially when looking at measurements near to the source of the transformer for earth fault loop impedance.

ECA EFLI presentation

The earth fault loop impedance technical guidance is freely available to ECA members through the ECA members portal and also through the ECA YouTube channel were members will find a link to view the Technical Tuesday webinar.

Topics covered in the both the CPD training presentation and webinar include:

  • Introduction to protection against electric shock (ADS)
  • Methods of obtaining earth fault loop impedance (EFLI) readings
  • Inaccuracies when measuring earth fault loop impedance (EFLI)
  • High resolution test equipment
  • Verification
  • Provisions where automatic disconnection is not feasible

The earth fault loop impedance meters featured in the guidance and training can be found at our Sonel product pages for High Current Fault Loop Impedance meters and on the Sonel website.
